Toyota Supra Turbo
When PRI decided to offer the iconic Toyota Supra as part of their rental fleet, we were met with a rather interesting challenge. Take a fairly notorious tuner car, bought sight unseen over the internet, and set it up to be an example of what the Supra should be, without a list of “do not do this” items to keep the uninitiated from getting in over their heads.
The car as purchased, naturally advertised as a pristine example, needed to effectively be rebuilt from the ground up. All suspension bushings were replaced, the suspension itself upgraded to a coilover system, the exhaust and turbo system put through several iterations to make a big turbo Supra actually work in the real world, brakes improved, cooling improved, electronics completely rebuilt and improved, and topped off with a bespoke audio system. We also added adjustable RaceLogic traction control to make a tail-happy, 650 horsepower car enjoyable on the street.
Unlike most shops that tend to turn Supras into unspeakable collections of fiberglass, we left the body stock, as there’s not much point trying to improve on perfection.
